All you need to get started is a little balance and a appetite for fun

What is Stand Up Paddle Boarding?

The answer may be best provided from the country responsible for its origin, Hawaii. Here it is called ‘Ku Hoe He’e Nalu’, which literally translates as “to stand, to paddle, to surf, a wave”. This describes the sport perfectly. The surfer stands on the board and uses the paddle to move through the water. From this vantage point, the paddle surfer has a better view of the incoming sets and is able to catch more waves than traditional surfers. The paddle is then used to assist steering and allows greater maneuverability.

Why Stand Up Paddle Boarding is So Good For You

If you are thinking about giving stand up paddle boarding (SUP) a go, then I am going to say, get out there and do it! It is the most fantastic, invigorating sport that is easy to learn and fun to master! It is also a great way to exercise.

The SUP workout

There are many benefits of learning to stand up paddle board as well as those indicated for your weight and fitness, these include:

* Abdominal and Core workout – While you are burning fat, you are also building muscle, as stand up paddle boarding requires a large amount of core body control. So by boarding you will provide a comprehensive work out for your abdominals, obliques and back muscles. Over time you will build more muscle tissue, which will mean that you will burn fat faster, which will leave you with a beautiful toned stomach.

* Stress Relief Most sports provide some stress relief and stand up paddle boarding is in the same category especially when done in calm conditions. After learning the sport you will find that it can be incredibly relaxing, which is a great way to shed stress and stay healthy.

* Perfect for All Levels Because you can use your SUP board in any condition you can learn as quickly or as slowly as you need. You don’t even need to stand on your board, learn sitting down, then progress to kneeling and finally standing.

* Fun Best of all it is a fun sport, which can be enjoyed socially in flat conditions with a friend or in the surf on your own. SUP boarding is adaptable to your needs.
